چکیده
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) may be a severe complication of descending necrotizing mediastinitis (DNM) that dramatically increases mortality in conventionally treated patients.1 Extracorporeal respiratory support in case of ARDS secondary to DNM represents a hard challenge, as a very severe clinical condition is treated with a complex technique. Here we describe a case of ARDS secondary to a DNM managed with veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

[Descending necrotizing mediastinitis: treatment by transcervical thoracic drainage].
We report the case of a 29-year-old man with descending necrotizing mediastinitis and subcarinal spread secondary to oropharyngeal infection. The thoracic infection was treated by placement of a transcervical thoracic drain, which was removed 15 days after surgery. The outcome was satisfactory and no further invasive treatment was required. We believe that transcervical thoracic drainage is a u...
متن کاملDescending Necrotizing Mediastinitis of Odontogenic Origin in a Young Male Patient: Case Report and Discussion
Background: Mediastinitis is an inflammatory process that can be presented acute or chronic. Acute mediastinitis occurs secondary due to esophagus perforation or induced by infections of odontogenic or retrapharyngealorigins. The most common form is the postsurgical mediastinitis after cardiovascular interventions. Descending necrotizing mediastinitis and acute infectious mediastinitis has ofte...
متن کاملSuccessful outcome of descending necrotizing mediastinitis due to neck trauma
Descending necrotizing mediastinitis (DNM) is an uncommon form of mediastinitis that can rapidly progress to septicemia. The optimal surgical approach still remains controversial. In this paper we would like to present a case of descending necrotizing mediastinitis that was treated successfully by means of thoracic drainage through trans-thoracic approach. In our case DNM occurred as a complica...

This paper reports the successful remedy of an ADNM case caused by oropharyngeal trauma in a 2-year-old child. Timely treatment, including abscess drainage in the chest, adequate application of broad-...
